Confused which certification - please help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I am new here so apologies for any mistakes in advance.

I want to start learning microsoft servers to eventually reach my goal of becoming server administrator. However I am not sure what certification to study. I must make it clear I know the basics of networking but have never setup a server or configured so I am a complete sponge wanting to absorb any knowledge I can.

Please can anyone tell me the most basic course to start off with and build on. Theres that many MS exams and certifications its too confusing where to begin.

Someone has told me MCITP is the one to start with but after some reading im not sure wether this is the basic one to start with.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • hi...

i guess your in the correct place. you can find a CPLS (Certified Partner For Learning Solutions) or else you can learn on your own if you wish using Technet. look at exams i would like to suggest following order for you

70-642 (this is the infrastructure module)

    70-640 (Active Directory)

70-643 (Application Services) - Optional for Server Administrator

then you can make a choice and select any one of the following specializations to become MCITP

70-646 - Server Administrator - role is more like a Server Administrator

70-647 - Enterprise Administrator - role is more like in to designing + Administration (this exam also requires you to pass 70-643 as well)

let me know if you have any more queries
