CRM 2011 Customer Lookup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Out of the box Entity Order or Invoice, have Customer ID, Customer Type, Customer Name fields which helps user to choose an Account or a Contact.

There is a very similar requirement for a custom Entity, where I need a look up which can provide an option to choose Lead, Account or Contact.

Have any one come across this scenario, you thoughts on this will be very much appreciated.

  • Hi Hari,

Unfortunately, you cannot add extra 'Customer' lookups to custom entities using supported methods. Your requirement is actually more complex than this as you need a 3rd entity (the Lead) to also be included. This is a different entity than Account & Contact (Account & Contact are technically the same entity).

A supported way around this may be to add 3 lookups to your custom entity then apply jscript so that on populating one of the lookups, the other 2 become disabled or invisible.

  • Hi Hari,

You can not add multitype lookup to the entities as there is no such functionlity available, If you will create entity with option "Define as an Actvity" ( you can also uncheck option: Do not show under activity menu), with the custom activity you will get a multitype lookup fields (to, cc, etc can have Account, Contact, Leads etc) out of the box. or you could create the multiple lookup fields (1. Account, 2. Lead, 3. Contact) and can have a list box showing record type i.e. Account, lead and Contatc) so if user selects Account then show only Account lookup field on form and hide others.

    I hope this helps.
