  • No, but you can use it for free with some conditions

Xamarin is now included with Visual Studio at no extra cost.

You can think abut visual studio community edition visual studio community

If you are an Individual developer than you can use Xamarin Starter Edition for free. You can develop, test and even deploy your app to app stores using starter edition. It includes Xamarin Android and iOS development (no Xamarin Forms) and compile code should not exceed 128k. Use above link to download Xamarin Starter Edition.

If you are Student then Xamarin is Free for Students. Yes, absolutely free without restrictions like in Starter Edition. Use this link to get Xamarin for Student.

Also, if you are educator in some academic institute or planning to teach, than you can apply to get Xamarin for free. Email them at this email id: education@xamarin.com or use this link to view detail at bottom of page.

Bonus: if you plan to become Xamarin Student Partner, you can get extra perks. Apply for Xamarin Student Partner
