  • Question

  • Is there a specific rule book for MOS ?

How does the exam program give penalties to candidates ?

    I have some specific questions:

    - Is hovering the mouse to wrong places allowed ?

    - Will pressing the reset button give a penalty to your score ?

    - In Excel, when must I use save, save as , or create PDF file ?

Answers

  • What do you mean by, "rule book"?

How does the exam program give penalties to candidates ?

It doesn't; you only get marks for what you get right.

    - Is hovering the mouse to wrong places allowed ?

You can hover wherever you like.

    - Will pressing the reset button give a penalty to your score ?

    No.

    - In Excel, when must I use save, save as , or create PDF file ?

Save to save the existing file.

Save as to give the existing file a new file name.

Create a PDF file when you need to do exactly that.

  • do these actions make my answer wrong:

Nothing is marked as wrong. You only get marks for what is right.

    - when the question is: save the 'workbook' as a pdf file name "abc" ; then must I use save as another file type, or save as, or create pdf file ?

    In EXCEL in the:-

    Save as type:

     - field there is a PDF option: use that.

    - is there any case where I can use hot key ?

You can use any hot keys you like.

    - functions confuse me. Must I always choose Sum function from formula->autosum->sum ? Can I type in the functions without using 'insert function'

You can use any function you like (provided you are not instructed to use a specific one in the question) and provided you arrive at the right answer.

    - can I use the name box when I am not asked to. I.e: the question is "insert a ... function in cell F24 that ...", can I type F24 in the name box instead of find and select it ?

You can use anything that you like provided that doing that is not contrary to the instructions given in the question. As long as you get the right answer and have complied with the instructions in the question you should be awarded the appropriate number of marks.

Read the question; follow the question then answer it.

Ask yourself a question: have I answered the question set? If the answer is yes then it should be marked as correct by the examiner.

  • So you mean the program will not mark on how I arrive at my answer, I mean as long as I use the method the question required ?

To the best of my knowledge as long as you get the right answer you will get the marks regardless of the method you chose to get there and provided that you do not contravene any specific instructions contained in the question that was set.

  • By rule book, I mean to ask if there is a set of rules for MOS exam for candidates, where the penalties are mentioned, but since you said that there is no minus point, then it is no need. However, how is an answer marked as wrong ?

do these actions make my answer wrong:

    - misclick, but then re-click at the right one; or choose yellow color when I am asked to choose red, but then I re-choose red; or miscliking tabs before choose the right one

    - use undo button

    other questions:

    - when the question is: save the 'workbook' as a pdf file name "abc" ; then must I use save as another file type, or save as, or create pdf file ?

    - is there any case where I can use hot key ?

    - functions confuse me. Must I always choose Sum function from formula->autosum->sum ? Can I type in the functions without using 'insert function'

    - can I use the name box when I am not asked to. I.e: the question is "insert a ... function in cell F24 that ...", can I type F24 in the name box instead of find and select it ?

please if you can provide me a set of information that summarizes all of the above detail, I would be very grateful. Because keep asking small questions like this waste your time :(

Thanks a lot for your help

  • Scott - I am aware of the exam to which you are referring and the answers that I have already provided were given with that knowledge in mind.

If you wish to investigate further you can do so here:-

  • No prob - you are lucky in that you have caught me on a non-working day otherwise I would not have had the time to be able to assist.

All you have got to do is to answer the question. You should soon know whether or not you have done that as you are sitting the exam.
