Can't install OneCare. Please help! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello. I recently bought a new computer and I am trying to install Windows Live OneCare. When I insert the CD and try to run the program I get an error message (# 0003-80004005) that says I need windows vista to run the program. The problem is, is that I do have Vista. I don't understand why this isn't working. Can anyone help me!

  • The CD you purchased may have an older installer which does not recognize your operating system. To install One Care go to - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm and install the 90 day trial. After installation open One Care, select "Subscribe" and follow the prompts to the payment page. On the payment page when asked for a method of payment select "Pre-paid PIN or Token" and enter the 25 digit product key provided with your retail CD.

  • Wow, that was quick. Thanks. I do have another question...I am currently running the Nortan Antivirus, b/c I didn't want to get connected to the internet without being somewhat protected. Should I Uninstall that first before I install the 90 day trial.

  • Yes, uninstall NAV first using Programs and Features>uninstall then run the Norton uninstall tool - http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

You will have some protection from the Vista firewall so downloading from the One Care site should be relatively safe.

  • Thanks. I uninstalled NAV and have downloaded the 90 day Trial of OneCare.  I started to subscribe and got to the payment page. It doesn't give me choice on a payment method. It only tells me to enter a credit card number.

  • OK, let's try a different way. Go to the One Care website - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm

select "Get It Now" on the left side of the page then use the link on the following page to "Activate a Product Key".
