Top Answerers? Why only moderators are shown as top answerers ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
After the last upgrade why is it that only the Moderators of a forum shown in the top answerers??
Is it that you donot want others to answer the questions and be recognized??
I am an active member of SSIS forum and I dont see any one other than the moderators in the list??

I donot understand the reason for this.. is it intended or an error?

If its intended I would like to know the reason behind this................

  • hi,
I have one suggestion here, you can separate the moderators list from the answerer list as MSFT guys answers also not counting in top answerers.

    Thanks-

  • It's by design that MSFT guys answers are not counted in top answerers.

There were complaints that "normal" people weren't visible on the Top Answerers Lists because those lists were all dominated by (MS) people who were paid to give support.

  • Community moderators are normal people too.  We've got regular jobs, can't spend 40 hours per week answering questions.  This new bug is not triggered by whether or not the contributor is a moderator.  I'm seeing normal normal people still being listed.  Looks to me it's back to seeing too much history, past 30 days.

  • Update: We've identified the problem and working on a solution. The bug itself is not on the UI rather in the backend DB servers. Part of fixing this issue is lessening the complexity of the Forums app. We're working on backend sql db changes to improve aggregation performance and preventing any issues in the future. We're looking into applying the fix in our September release which would be at the end of September.

Thanks for the patience on this.

I cannot unpropose anything, nor can I mark as "unhelpful".

Also, I can quote myself which may be fine in other places that use PHP for example but for here, this is too elaborate I feel even though there is a drive towards simplification it still flies in the face of a rich yet elegant experience in my view.

Stop adding spam to the forum by "proposing" ok, please only do it once and only provide ONE answer, not several and if you must have a "helpful" replies section.

There needs to be a bit more cross-referencing I believe, it's still too old school for my liking.

First and fore most Marking ur post to the thread u initiate does not give u any points.
If I feel that my post answers my query I have the perimission to mark my post as answer.
If this is un acceptable to you you may raise this as a suggestion in the suggestions forum. In that case only the moderators will answer are you OK with that.

  • Hey.

I was mucking around but you probably knew that.

This is my point though, marking and unmarking all adds unnecessary text to the page.

There needs to be some clearly defined rules, someone eg a Project Management team need need to sit down and ask themselves what they actually want from this place in totality, ie if there is to be a variation between MSDN, Technet, Answers etc.

How it is now is almost completely haphazard, plenty of features, not much in the way of consistency in terms of experience which is what Microsoft is meant to be about.

(I think a lot of these same folks hang out in many Win7 groups, so it's probably not just this list that they're impacting)

I don't want to muddy the waters, but what about being able to quote oneself multiple times?

There was a time when, if you changed your name as I have that the website tried to change it for every single post, quotes included, obviously that was bad, as is this.

Also bad is I click quote or reply and it takes me to sign in, then I'm just left standing there having to click again.
