Auto Speed Negotiation for Seagate 750GB RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I bought a 750GB Seagate sata/300 (ST3750640AS-RK). The Drive came jumpered to limit it to 1.5Gbits/sec.  I removed the jumper since I assume that the HP MediaSmart is Auto speed negotiation capable...did I just waste some time here? I could not find anywhere that says the stock board HP uses is an older version or not...just waiting to see if my system hangs, locks up or does some crazy stuff.

Any experts out there have an opinion, or is it one of those things that do not impact performance?

    Thanks

  • The HP units are SATA 1 or 2.  So taking off the jumper just enables sata 2..  if you kept it on, you would have 1.5gbs.  So you didn't waste time, you just enabled sata 2 which is 3.0 gbs I believe.
