  • Yes, 70-519 is "final" exam that you need for the MCPD on .Net 4.0. There is no prerequisite to take the exam, that is, you can take it any time you wish without having taken any other exams before. However, this will not make you an MCPD on 4.0 until you also pass the necessary MCTS exams on 4.0.

Since you are already an MCPD on 3.5, you may prefer to wait for the upgrade exam (70-523, not yet available) and take only this one rather than the set of new exams for 4.0.

  • Hey,

    This is quite confusing...

I am an MCTS on .net 3.5 and passed the following exams .

MCTS prerequisite: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Application Development   Exam 70-512

Now I wanted to be a MCPD and planning to take 70-519 on framework 4.0 ..

Shall I directly take the test or I should pass the following..?

      • MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Web Applications  Exam 70-513
      • MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Data Access          Exam 70-516

    Please suggest..!!

    Thanks!!

  • You can't combine the TS exams on version 3.5 with the PRO exam on version 4.0 to get an MCPD.

If you already have the "MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Applications", you can choose to take exam 70-564 ("PRO: Designing and Developing ASP.NET Applications Using the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5"), and as a result you would get the certification "MCPD: ASP.NET Developer 3.5". Note, however, that exam 70-564 retires on July 31, 2013, so you need to plan to take it before that date.

Alternatively, if you want the MCPD on .Net version 4.0, you will need to take the whole set of exams: 70-515, 70-513, 70-516 and 70-519. Or finish your 3.5 certification as explained above and then upgrade to 4.0 by means of 70-523 (all of these exams are also retiring on July 2013).

Your last alternative is to pursue instead a MCSD certification on Visual Studio 2012 (which replaces MCPD). This requires a set of new exams: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-mcsd-web-applications.aspx
