Your copy of Windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just started receiving this message three days ago.  This computer was purchased brand new and from Office Depot.  I sincerely doubt my copy of Windows that came installed on an HP computer is counterfeit.  What should I do?

There's are two numbers besides the key on the COA.  One is 584037-001, and the other is 00196-152-510-598.  I assume the key you don't want me to quote is the eternal combination of letters and numbers...

I believe I got my wife's computer at Office Depot...this one is from the university bookstore, but still, it really shouldn't be counterfeit.

The errors highlighted above (and the associated file tampers) are what we often see in a system that has been restored from an image backup – you’ve not mentioned that, so I assume it’s not the case here. Either way, we’ve not had much success troubleshooting them in the forums (yet!)

What little success we have had, has come from installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers (note that they may not want to install on your system – that’s fine)
try downloading and installing them from here -
    - you’ll need the set for the x64 (64-bit) platform on Win7
Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
     Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
