Computer audio with Live Meeting - need a A/V server for this? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently we are running OCS 2007 R2 with one standard edition box and one edge box that is configured for web conferencing.

My question is with this setup, can we use computer audio for everyone who's in a Live Meeting web conference with our current architecture? Or do we have to have an A/V box to use computer audio with a Live Meeting?

    thanks,
    Stephen

  • You can use the same box to LM and A/V. You only need to take care with performance and HA, if you need to HA or high performance is better you separate the roles.

  • To enable audio and video in both the communicator and livemeeting you need to setup de role A/V Server on Edge.

  • The Conferencing (Web and A/V) components are only used in multi-party conversations of 3 or more, as those servers handle the mixing of the data and media streams.  But 2-party sessions are peer-to-peer communications to the OC clients are taking directly to one another, which can support any of the IM, Audio, or Video sessions.

So you are saying we do need to enable/configure the A/V server role to use computer audio in Live Meeting web conferences?

The reason I'm asking is because I see in testing that computer audio works already in Communicator IM conversations. But it does not appear to work in Live Meetings.

  • Thanks for the clarification. Out of curiosity what is OCS using to enable the IM computer audio calls since we don't have an A/V server at the moment?
