DVDr/w drive is only recognised as CDRom drive. DVD's wont play using Media player but will using powerdvd RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently formatted my computer and reinstalled windows XP home. I installed LAN drivers and used windows update to install all of the important updates. When I opened Windows Media Player 11 and tried to burn a dvd it would only let me select cd. I then inserted a DVD movie and it said I had no dvd decoder. I installed K-lite codec pack and also Powerdvd 5. I found I could watch a movie through powerdvd however WMP 11 still would only let me burn a cd and when the movie was playing, the screen was just black (no error message). I uninstalled WMP 11 but I am having the exact same problem with WMP 9. I went onto the Lite-on website to make sure my drivers are up to date for the dvd burner (SHW-1635s) and apparently they are. Please if anyone has any suggestions I am willing to try anything at this stage.
