Photo Editor Caused Failed Validation

Question
-
When downloading the Office 2007 trial I had no problem; however, when downloading tools for it I failed validation. The error said Office XP was not registered. I tried to uninstall and found the cause was that the Photo Editor tool was the only Office XP software on my system. It was not included in Office 2003 and I like it so I had installed the tool only. It does not have a means of registering the Office 2002 software which I no longer use because I have Office 2003. Is there any way around this problem.Thursday, January 18, 2007 11:34 PM

Alright, someone else with my EXACT same problem! I see no solution, however, so I'll reiterate, and post my MGE diagnostic results.
I own Office 2007 Home & Student Edition. I was trying tonight, to download one of the Word letter templates, and Word said it had to do a Genuine Advantage check. Fine, go ahead. When it said it failed, I couldn't believe it, so I downloaded this plugin to get more detailed results, and it said it failed because my copy of Office XP wasn't activated....but I don't have Office XP installed! I then realized I have Microsoft Photo Editor, because I too like this program, and Office XP was the last version of Office to still install it from. I installed this program ONLY, and nothing more. I cannot activate my "copy of XP" from this program however, and this program really isn't Office XP -- it's a Microsoft Tool. Furthermore, I'm trying to use a GENUINE copy of Word -- I'm not trying to use Photo Editor -- so why are you telling me I can't continue? It's absurd, ridiculous.
As for the question you provided about a link to the Photo Editor tool --- I didn't download it -- I installed it from my Office XP Professional CD! Microsoft created this application and they can't even support it? Please, I beg you, help me out here, and either fix your Genuine Advantage tool so it doesn't detect a non-activated Office XP when I don't have Office XP installed, or tell me how to activate, when I only have Photo Editor installed. Thanks!

Hello crownoflife,
From your diagnostic report it is showing you have both Office XP & Office 2007 installed on your machine. Whenever you install any program, whether it is just a single program or multiple programs from an Office Suite, that version of the Office suite will be installed however only containing which programs you select to install. You will need to activate your Office XP suite in order to pass validation, whether it be for Windows Update or any other service that requires your computer to pass validation.
The purpose of this forum is the support of the OGA program and your question falls out of the scope for our support. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may help. I do suggest trying to activate using the “Activate by Phone” method from the activation Wizard. Telephone numbers for Activation Centers vary by product license and country/region. Use the number provided on your Activation Wizard screen to call the Microsoft Activation Center. Please follow the below guidance for telephone activation for your version of Office:
1) Start any Office program.
2) In the “Office Activation Wizard”, click the “Activate by using the telephone” option, and then click Next
3) Read the “Microsoft Office Privacy Policy” page, and then click “Next”.
In the “Select your location” list, select a country or region. Call the telephone number that is listed on line 2. The customer service agent will ask you for the installation ID and will give you a confirmation ID in return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes provided.4) Click “Next”.
5) On the “Activation Complete” page, click “Finish”.
