error 0x800402c9 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello
I get an error code 0x800402c9 when I try to update my Windows XP Sp3. Microsoft has told me, that my version of Windoews XP is not genuine and that I have to buy my way into the microsoftheaven.  I did that, paid more that 1000 danisk kroners in advance, and now I'm sitting here with what we in danish call "a long nose". The program doesn.t work, what is happening?  Have Microsoft stolen money out of my pocket?
When I try to Google the error number I get thousands of answers, people with the same problem, and as far as I can see no answers.
I will try, like all the others to print the informations from my machine, in the hope that I eventually will get an answer, preferably before this year runs out ( I am an old man, and my days are numbered in smaller figures).

  • Hello Sven,

Thank you for visiting the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum.  If you have questions about the Genuine Advantage Kit you previously ordered, including what the product key is, please refer to the following link for phone numbers and operational hours. See below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cuphone

Select your location to view local order support contact information:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/OrderHelp.aspx

You should receive an e-mail from service@microsoft.com  which will contain the 25 digit Product Key along with instructions for running the conversion tool. Please print a copy of the email for your records. You may be asked for your Product Key in the future if you request Windows Product Support. The next step of the update process will also ask you for your Product Key.

    Windows Product Key Update Tool:

     http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45668

This tool will lead you through several steps to convert your current Windows Vista software to a genuine and activated copy of Windows Vista.  All active items in your order for Microsoft Products have been shipped.

Note:  Please check your junk email folder to ensure your confirmation email has not been sent to this location. The originating email will be from service@microsoft.com .

Thank you for visiting the WGA program forum.
