User being prompted to sign into CRM again, via an Authentication Is Required dialog RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I've got a user who is reporting that occasionally he is being shown a webpage dialog asking him to sign in again.  I've seen the screenshot, but not sure what's causing it.  The user then has two buttons; Sign In which allows them to enter their username and password and continue using CRM, or Cancel which stops them being able to use CRM.  The dialog's title is Authentication Is Required, and the message is "Your session in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live is about to expire.  To continue working, you must sign in again.".

The CRM system is partner-hosted with IFD setup and using IIS7, and the version is CRM 4.0 with Rollup 16.  The user has the Outlook connector installed and is using IE 8.0.

    Anyone seen this message before?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

  • Hi,

I am not sure this problem is in CRM 4.0 but in CRM 2011 this is a new feature where in the session will be maintained for a particular period of time and whenever the session is about to expire you get this popup message asking to sign in again. It is better to sign in to CRM again to continue your operations. Please let me know if this answered your question.

  • Hi Vishnu,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for not getting back to you earlier, as I don't get alerted anymore when people respond to posts.

I am definetly having the problem in CRM 4.0, but it does sound similar to the new feature in CRM 2011, so that is strange.

I've got to raise a different bug with Microsoft anyway, so looks like I'll be raising two.

    Cheers,

    Ben

  • Ben, did you get any more information on this?  We have been hosting an IFD for 3 years and I had this same thing reported for the first time today.  Rollup 16 in our case.

Thanks for any light you can shed.

  • Hi Nick and Dave,

I haven't got any more information yet, but when I do I'll post an update here.

Nick have you got rollup 16 as well?

I've got email alerts working now, so I won't take as long to reply next time.

    Kind regards,

    Ben

  • I've also received the first report of this issue.

    CRM 4.0.7333.3231 (rollup 15)

This is only occurring for one user at the moment and only began a few days ago - nothing changed in our configuration.

    Any updates?

  • Hi there,

I'm now mainly working on CRM 2011, so will not be looking at this issue in CRM 4.0.  I've fixed the issue in CRM 2011 by changing the security token's expiration, but still don't know why it started occurring in version 4.0.

If anyone does come up with an answer please do post an update here!

    Kind regards,

    Ben

  • bjam76, have you had any luck getting the security token expiration extension to work long term? We have used Powershell to extend the token life, but it seems to work sporadically. Users soon begin reporting that the re-authentication screen will come up right in the middle of them working, sometimes less than 30 minutes after logging in. This is becoming a real nightmare for us...

  • Brian, we haven't had any problems so far, but I'll post back if we do!

  • Hi Brian,

I've just had my first user report this issue, so did you manage to resolve it in the end?  We're using rollup 5 and that hasn't helped.

    Kind regards,

    Ben
