  • Backing up from WHS to a network device does not work with the means of the console, since here are only supported local devices (which you have to add first to the Storage pool as Backup disk. If you want to create backups to a network device, you will have to create a script and run it locally on the server (maybe as Scheduled task), which is not supported but possible.
Be aware, that you run the task with a user account, which has enough permissions to run locally on the server, access the shares (usually on WHS this will be Administrator with console password) and has permissions to write to the networked device. As source always use the network shares, not the local drives of the server.

  • Hi Spawnie

I was wondering if you can share your experience working with WHS and Synology. In your opinion what would be the pros and cons of each device?

    Thanks in advance.
