Hi,
did you at any time clone your system drive or modify the partitions, after WHS was installed?
This can lead to a non detection of drive D:.
Is the disk which you have in the server the Hitachi drive?
I would recommend to try a server reinstall in this case.
You could also run
chkdsk D: /x /r
in a command prompt on your server to validate, if something is wrong with the disk.

How many disks do you have in WHS?
If multiple, and one drive fails, WHS is still capable to work, but you need to remove the drive via console and figure out, which physical drive it is and what was the reason for it to go away.
And is the missing drive an internal or external disk?
Check also the event log of the server for related errors.
