Asked by:
Disable OCS Mediation server DTMF requirement

Question
-
Hello,
I am trying to configure a SIP trunk from a PBX without DTMF capabilities.
In the Mediation server side trace I get the following error message:SIP/2.0 488 Invalid incoming Gateway SDP: Gateway ParseSdpOffer Error: No DTMF support on Gateway side.
Is there any way to configure the mediation server to NOT require DTMF support?

I am pretty sure that there is no such setting on mediation server. Most VoIP equipment today does support DTMF events - what are you using?

Hello,
Ok, to bad. I am using a minimal configuration of an Aastra MX-ONE PBX.
This PBX have support for DMTF when an IPLU (IP-Line Unit) board is used,
but then I would need a big "magazine" to host this board.
I am currently using the EMG hardware which is considerably smaller, but it
does not offer DTMF at all it seems. I will see if we can "fake" DTMF
capabilities from the PBX side./mk

Is it wise to make integration without DTMF-support ?
Can´t use Exchange UM.
Can´t use Conferencing Service
Aastra might consider firmware upgrade on MX-One to support RFC 2833 on MGW hardware.

Hello Tobbe,I understand your comment, but for testing purposes there might be reasons to allow this.
Why must the trunk support DTMF if we only would like to use it for voice? As said in the post above Aastra have better hardware to support RFC 2833.
On the other hand I can not understand the reason behind the mediation server REQUIRING DTMF,
if the other side can do voice let us connect and do voice, or?Is this something that changed between the mediation server in the RTM version compared to R2?

Hi
As far as I can tell there is no change in the code at all from R1 to R2.
Based on the fact that the Mediation still is using forbidden ports in the call set-up (Took me three weeks to convince MS during the R1 Beta program) it seems they have not changed anything but the demand for 64-bit HW.
I have been working a little bit with Aastra setup (on Classic HW) and when I moved away from the Design Guide using IP-extensions and only used SIP trunk the solution was less complicated.
OK, I don´t have the possibility to use Dual Forking in Aastra but I can do that in the OCS as well. I don´t have presence integration (on the other hand it requiers both Netwise AND Aastra Collaboration Link with expensive licenses).
But, I can make calls to/from the OCS Environment the same way as a HW Gateway solution without the need of expensive HW.
I don´t know if you are going for the full integration but if you only want to make voice calls Sip Trunk without Dual Forking IP-extensions might work ?

Which forbidden ports are used by Mediation Server?
By the way - there are changes in R2, e.g. support of early media and TLS/SRTP to gateways.

Hello Tobbe,
Yes, I only want to make SIP trunk calls work at this point.
I have now got it working with SIP endpoints that support RFC2833 (X-lite, Aastra D4 phones, Aastra 675xi phones)
while using the EMG hardware. I still can not get it to work with h.323 endpoints unfortunately, for this I need the IPLU hardware./mk

Forbidden port
During call set-up the Mediation Server begins the media set-up with a UDP packet destination port 0. Since port 0 is a port for internal use within the host (E.g. 127.0.0.1) the result could be problems with one-way audio.
Especially if you have a firewall between the Mediation Server and the GW/IP-PBX. Yes, I know the FW scenario is NOT supported by microsoft but many organizations have the Telephony environment behind firewalls and even if you open all ports in both directions on a internal firewall for the purpose of communication between Mediation Server and GW/IP-PBX the firewall might drop all UDP packets from Mediation Server due to the fact that the first packet has destination port 0 and the fw will not allow it.
I had this problem with a internal firewall (Checkpoint) and has stumbled over the problem in other forums. My tip if you can´t remove the firewall. Installl NeT software firewall on the MEdiation Server and filter out any outgoing packets below port 1. Problem solved.
Very bad, but working solution.Wednesday, June 10, 2009 12:05 PM -
Hello,
This DTMF requirement is also something that changed in the mediation server between RTM (3.0.6362.0) and R2 (3.5.6907.0).
I have compared the two invite messages below and they are identical.
When sent to the RTM version, the call setup is successful.
When sent to the R2 version I am getting the "No DTMF support" message./mk
