I am a student and am supposed to be able to download this program to use in my classroom. It keeps telling me that I have the compatibility mode turned on and need to turn it off to download the program. I don't know where to do this from. I don't have other versions on my computer since this is a class I'm just starting.

You should be able to download the Community Edition of Visual Studio from this page:

https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-community-vs.aspx

Note that you need at least Windows 7 to be able to install it. It will not work on Windows XP.
