Since last update: I see the remote desktop background image (Vista) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I noticed since last update yesterday:

Sometimes I see the remote desktop background image, most times I do not.  Instead I get the "switching to Vista Basic" pop-up with black desktop.

Are you guys fixing it so I'll be able to see this all the time?

  • Hi,

We switch into Vista Basic mode during a Live Mesh Remote Desktop session by design to improve performance.  If you're not seeing the same thing every time you remote into your device please collect logs from the two machines and submit a bug so that we can look into what's going on.  Instructions for collecting logs and submitting a bug are in an Announcement at the top of the forums.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • From the very beginning of using Live Mesh some months ago I sometimes see the "Remote Desktop" toolbar at the top of Vista when I log in. So I don't think that has anything to do with the new update. As for the other point, I've never seen that sorry.

  • I've always seen the background on Vista, if I recall correctly... I'm only hitting one machine with Vista Home Premium, though. Maybe it's different depending on machine specs?

  • I just did a quick check. When I connect to my Vista Home Ultimate PC (which was locked), I get the signin screen, which does show the background and repaints - twice - painfully slowly. Once I enter my password, my desktop comes up with a black background, so it's NOT showing my desktop background, which is an image. My earlier comment was in error. Background does NOT show up on the desktop (once I'm signed in), and that probably is helping performance.

  • I always get the background image when remoting into my Vista machine, but always get a black background when remoting into an XP machine.

  • Hi webguy 7,

Thanks for sumbitting your logs.  If you wouldn't mind posting the Connect Feedback ID here, that would make it easier for me to track this internally, and will also allow others to view and validate your bug report.

    Thanks,

    Ben.
