WHS overwrote my existing volume. Recovery? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just did a fresh install of WHS on the primary drive.
My problem is this, I had a separate existing hardware RAID NTFS volume with all of my files on it that seems to have been taken over by the Drive Extender. There was no prompt to accept this.

Is there a way in WHS to undo this action and get my files back?

  • I'm sorry, but you were warned repeatedly when you installed Windows Home Server that it would format every drive found, and you agreed to permit it.

That said, you can try data recovery tools; there are a number of programs out there that can recover a formatted drive with nearly complete success. However, if you do so you should first use the WHS Console to remove the RAID array from your storage pool, or you are guaranteed to break Windows Home Server.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
