WHS 2011 Connector will not install on new laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had a netbook and 2 desktop connected to my home server for about 5 months without and issues. My wife just got a sony laptop and no matter what I do I cannot get the connector to install. I can access the files and remote desktop in. The error I get is error "Cannot connect this computer to the network" See troubleshooting. The time and date all match on all computers. On another note my ADCS will not start. I have uninstalled this temporarily. Any suggestions? Thanks! I also cannot remove a computer that I no longer have..

  • Have you tried this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3941.aspx ? Not sure ADCS is supported on WHS.

What are the symptoms of not being able to remove the computer - how have you tried to do it?

Really? ADCS is in fact required for WHS2011

Another helpful post Paul - I am sure that helped the OP!

Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS) "Yes", but I am not sure about Microsoft Automated Data Capture System (ADCS)? My mistake for not clarifying what the OP was refering to.

I beg to differ Phil, since ADCS is required for WHS2011 and since the OP
clearly indicated that he'd removed it and has not reinstalled it, he's
never going to be able to get WHS2011 working without it. In fact, unless
the OP is intimately familiar with ADCS his only real option at this point
    is reinstalling WHS2011 from scratch.

A simple look at what Microsoft Automated Data Capture System really is
should have been enough to reveal that the OP was referring to AD
Certificate Services and not Microsoft Automated Data Capture System.

I really don't need your valuation of my posts and I'd ask that you keep
    them to yourself.

  • Sorry I was out of town...

Phil.....I open the dashboard and click on the computer then remove.  It then gives me the error message that this computer cannot be removed.

Paul...ADCS is now removed and everything seems to be working properly with the exception of not being able to install connector to that laptop.  I have not reinstalled ADCS yet.

This is still never going to work. Part of the process of installing the
connector is that AD CS issues a certificate to the client computer on
which the connector is being installed.

As I said, your best option at this point is to bite the bullet and
reinstall your server from the ground up.

  • Ahh.... well I guess that makes sense I got those errors before I tried running the connector.  What causes that to crash?

I have a raid array setup so if I unhook all my data drives and just leave the os drive I should be able to reinstall without losing anything correct.

  • Another thing.  What are the basic roles, etc you would recommend installing.  Any tips?

Just let the server install handle that, there's no need at all to manually
    install anything.

  • Should I uninstall all the connectors on each of the computers and reinstall them after I have reinstalled WHS 2011?

  • Hello Paul,

I hope you are fine.  Can you please help me??? I am trying to install the WHS 2011 Connect software to my Win 7 SP1 64bit computers and laptop, but all I am getting on all of the clients in the CSetup.log is OS not supported.  Can you please tell me what I have have to edit in the SupportedOS.xml so it will install.  I have searched everywhere but, unfortunately, I have not found the answer.  I have tried editing the xml file to OS id="5" Name="Windows 7, AMD64" Major="6" Minor="1" Build="7000" SPMajor="1" SPMinor="" ExcludedSuite="512" RequiredSuite="" RequiredProductType="1" Architecture="9" and tried <OS id="5" Name="Windows 7, AMD64" Major="6" Minor="1" Build="7600" SPMajor="1" SPMinor="" ExcludedSuite="" RequiredSuite="" RequiredProductType="1" Architecture="9"/

I even tried changing the build number to 7601 but it carries on saying OS is not supported.  I delete the temp files and used CCleaner.exe to clean files and registry.

Could you please tell me what exactly the SupportedOS.xml should be for Win 7 SP1 64bit??? I tried XP in a virtual machine and it installed fine.

Thanking you in advance, any help at all will be very much appreciated my friend,

    Lee
