Have a valid product key, I need help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I purchased a laptop from Bestbuy last week in Virginia.  I forgot the installation CDs that came with it in the hotel I was staying in. Now I'm in Florida and my pc got a virus that really screwed things up.  I had to reinstall, so I borrowed an installation disc from a friend in the hopes of changing the product key to my valid one afterwards.  Now it turns out that is not possible.  What can I do?  I have a valid product key and a $1400 paper weight of a laptop.  It came with Windows XP Media Center 2005.  I have receipts, serial numbers, the whole shabang to prove I'm legit.  And I won't pay for anything.  I just want access to what I've already paid for.  Please help.

    Thank you

I'm sorry for the problems you're having.  If you've lost your Windows XP Media Center 2005 installation disk you will need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop to have it replace.  Each manufacturer has a specific set of hardware for Media Center and will need to be replaced by them.
