Office Validate Not Complete - Office Not Activated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Forum,

I purchased by XP Pro desktop computer from HP over a year ago, and MS Office was factory installed.

The validation tool is telling me that it failed because Office is not activated. All Office programs individaully tell me they are activated already when I click on the Activate button under help.

Below are the results of the Diagnostices Tool.

Can you tell me what the validation problem is?

By the way, this has been very aggravating.

    Thanks,

    SteveB

  • I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing surrounding Office activation. In turn I would like to provide the following steps to try and resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to attempt resolving this issue.  Open My Computer located on your desktop

    1.      Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu and follow:  Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

    2.      Right click the data.dat file, then click “Delete”.

    3.      This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA)

    4.      Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and “ACTIVATE” it.

    5.      If product activation was successful try the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA). Please launch the following link and begin the OGA process again: (this is the OGA part; Office Genuine Advantage):  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=eng

  • Stephen,

Sorry this did not work for me....

I renamed the data.dat file to OLD__data.OLD_dat instead of deleting it.

When I clicked on Activate it in MS Word, the message told me it was already activated.

    What's next?

    Thanks,

  • Steve,

I put this information in the previous post Also reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851 . Please call the number located within the post and/or call 1-888-571-2048.  Next you will want to select 0 for the operator.  You may have to select this more than once to punch thru the automated process.  Let us know if this worked.  Take care :-)

  • Stephen,

I think the phone number you gave is for a different product.

For 2003 Office, the number is >> Office activation (U.S. only): (888) 652-2342.

Since there is NO activation screen from which to read some required numbers, I was told to call the FEE Based Support group at 1-800-936-5700. So it looks like I will have to pay Microsoft to fix what appears to be a Microsoft Bug.

Do you have any other suggestions that will not cost me money?

    Thanks,

    SteveB

  • Steve:

It looks like you have 3 different products installed for Office, 1 of which is already activated.

The one that's activated is "Microsoft Office Small Business 2003" where the other 2 products (Office XP related) are not activated, but don't have an associated name with them.

Do you happen to know what 2 Office XP products are installed?

  • Hi Stephen,

I used PC Relocator to move programs from my previous computer to this newest one, and at least two MS programs which are now not registered... and I cannot find the KEY Numbers for these programs:

    > MS Works, v7.0 (Only Calendar and Address Book appear to be installed now)

    > Picture It Platinum 2002

I had a stand-alone version of MS Outlook 2003 on my last computer, but now I have the Complete Office Package.

Whicn one is installed now??? I have no idea.

My office package also came with Outlook with Business Contact Manager... unfortunately, I accidentially hit the wrong button when my computer was new and instead of ask me later to install it, I hit the other button and it has never been installed.  I have tried, but it refuses to install now.

Is this causing a problem now with validation????? I do not know.

The specific information you supplied is the type of information I have needed all along...

So do I need to uninstall MS Works v7.0 and Picture it, which I no longer use?

    Thanks,

    SteveB
