Problems migrating from 2007 to 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Afternoon,

I have been following the post http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chrisfie/archive/2010/05/27/how-to-upgrade-from-project-server-2007-to-project-server-2010-in-10min.aspx that suggests its straightforward to migrate the data to 2010. We already created a green field PWA with 2010 and exported and imported the projects that were live. I now need to migrate all the archive data off to a separate area.

Following the steps I was able to upgrade the content database and mount it to the web application for the project application and can be accessed via http://projects/projectserver

I then go to create the new PWA site using the gui or the powershell and it fails and says see the application log. I've looked on all 5 servers that make up the farm but I can't see anything that relates to why.

Interestingly if I remove the content database I can then create the PWA site because in the 2007 environment they both lived under /projectserver

I did get it working by recreating the PWA site under projects/archive and the data under projects/projectserver and I could have used the bulk site updater to change the urls but I tried to fix the PWA site and deleted it and can no longer recreate it. Every time I get error see application log.

I've restored the SQL data and tried again. I have checked that it is not still defined as a site collection on the service application as per this post. http://epmsource.com/2011/05/31/common-errors-when-a-pwa-site-is-deleted-incorrectly/

    and am now stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Mike

  • Mike,

Basic problem here is, you are trying to provision PWA in the same environment using existing PWA databases. In SharePoint each site collection has unique ID. You need to create PWA site in another environment for your achieve projects.

  • Hi Mike,

I agree with Hrishi; you will need to use a different evnrionment. Maybe you can create a separate web application and attach same databases but using different names?
