Firefly and WHS RRS feed

  • Hi,
I don't know Firefly, but if it is accessible via Web interface in your local network and uses the mentioned port, this should function generally, if you:
    • create an exception for the port 9999 in the Windows Firewall if not already done and alter the scope of the exception to any computer
    • configure port forwarding for that port in your router.

  • It's possible to publish your music outside your premises using Firefly. The Bonjour protocol (used for discovery in iTunes) isn't designed to be routable, so it's difficult if your PC isn't on the same subnet. But it is possible. You can access your FireFly installation directly, or through SSH, for example.

The FirePlay Flash add-in for FireFly was designed specifically to make it possible to easily listen to your music from afar, however, and is probably a better solution. See e.g. here, for information about how to configure and use it.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
