WHS 2011 won't install... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been trying to install for about a week. I have a WHS 2011 DVD. I get to the windows splash screen, I select the HD that I want to install it on (1TB Western Digital Black) It installs the files and then the screen says that the installation failed. I created a bootable USB thumb drive and copied the DVD over to that, same error. The computer is newly built, AMD X3, I think 8gb ram. Anything else to try? I'm real close to giving up and going with windows 7...

  • Is your server connected to your network?

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I've tried the install with it connected to my network, no luck. This last time though I had it up on a table. I will retry from the USB with it connected directly to the router.

  • Connected it to my router, tried again and the error pops up when it is expanding files.

  • I'm having EXACT same issue as this. No matter what I do, it won't install. Actually doing a clean reinstall to a new disk after old disk failed. I couldn't restore it from backup and now it won't reinstall no matter what hard disk I've tried.

I've tried brand new ones, I've reformatted them, used Diskpart to clean them and nada.  My last attempt ended with the exact same line as above. Installing from DVD since installing from USB stick seems to cause an error even earlier, like it's detected the USB stick as the default drive.
