Issue with Dashboard Opening RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an issue with the Dashboard.  I have troubleshooted it down to the Users Add-In.  I can launch the Dashboard in safe mode and disable the user Add-in and the Dashbaord will open and be fully functional.  When I enable the user Add-In the Dashboard opens for just a second and then crashes.  Since the users Add-In isn't a third party software add-in I can't reinstall it.  How do I fix the default Add-ins?

  • OK, so I got this fixed myself.  It did have to do with an add-in that uses the users add-in.  I navigated to C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\Addins and there are folders for each add-in.  I opened the Users directory and found two files.  The users.addin is default and I had an additional file.  I deleted the 3rd party add-in file and then the Dashboard opened correctly and wihout any error in the event log.  It looks like all the 3rd party add-ins place files in these directories to use the dashboard.  Now I know how to fix the default add-ins if I have issues with them.

  • I have and issue with my Dashboard crashing.  I have troubleshooted it down to the User Add-in.  When I launch the Dashboard in safe mode and disable the Users add-in the dashboard will open and be fully functional.  When I enable the users add-in the Dashboard opens just for a flash and crashes.  I get the folloiwng two errors in the event log when this happens:

  • Possibly this is a result of something else you did; did you create any users outside the dashboard? Make any changes to security, etc. from the desktop?

In any case, I can think of no way to fix this short of reinstallation.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • What had happend was a disk drive had crashed and I had to perform a restore from backup.  After the restore, the dashboard would not open at all not matter what I done so then I restored the system state backup and it all starting working again except for the users Add-in.  From what I can tell, everything is now working fine except for the users Add-in.
