Error communicating with printer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got a wireless network with a wireless print server.  My laptop is Vista and have one care running.  Every time I send something to the printer I get a error message communicating with the printer.  I've unplugged/replugged and restarted/repowered everything.  I have new ink - what can I do to resolve?

  • Did the printer work before with OneCare installed?

Open OneCare, click on change settings.

On the firewall tab, disable the firewall temporarily.

Try to print. If it works, then we need to check your sharing settings.

If it fails with the same error, you may need to reset it to communicate with your router or access point. Did you use OneCare to configure your wireless security - Secure WiFi?

    For your sharing settings:

    Open OneCare.

    Click Change Settings

On the firewall tab, click configure firewall

If the network is shown as Public, click Change Location to change it to "Home or Work."

    Click the Advanced Settings button

    Click Network connections tab.

If there are multiple active connections shown, you may need to disable them in your Windows network connections settings. (Network and Sharing Center, manage connections, in Vista; Right click My Network Places and select Properties on the Start menu in XP)

On the Ports and Protocols tab, add a check mark next to File and Printer Sharing - for subnet and Internet if the first setting alone (after all of the above are verified) does not allow Sharing to work.
