Major new versions of MPMileage and MPCluster in beta testing RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • The next major new versions of MPMileage and MPCluster are in beta testing. Both require .NET 4 installing (previous versions required .NET 2). As previously, I am giving free licenses in return for constructive beta testing.

    MPMileage ( http://www.mpmileage.com for details)

Calculates route distances/travel times/costs for point-to-point routes listed in a database, and is capable of taking advantage of modern multi-core computers for faster processing.

The new version includes better internal load balancing which results in faster processing and speed consistency. The current released version could only work with start/end locations defined as pushpins in a pre-created MapPoint map. The new (beta) version can also work with longitude, latitude coordinates and street addresses (ie. it can geocode on the fly). Note that for reliability, pushpins and coordinates are preferred - but both coordinates and street addresses need testing.

    MPCluster ( http://www.mpcluster.com for details )

Cluster analysis tool for MapPoint. The new version includes some additional export functionality, but the primary improvements are internal. MPCluster is now multi-threaded and will multiple cpu cores (when available) to give some huge speedups in cluster processing time, and number-of-cluster estimates (the latter are particularly slow in the released version).

Let me know if you are interested in testing either of these products. Note that MPMileage testers should probably try the existing version first (free trial download available from the above site).

Both products will be released before the end of the year.

  • Hi Richard

We are currently researching possibilities of Bing and MapPoint capabilities for time/distance matrix generation, and came across your product and this post.

We would like to participate in the beta testing of MileCharter.

  • MPMileCharter (which is a different batch calculation tool) is not currently in beta testing. MPMileage is. If you are still interested, contact me using the form at http://www.mpmileage.com or http://www.mapping-tools.com   (posting email addresses here will probably attract spam robots).

  • Both of the new versions of MPMileage and MPCluster have been released. The free license offer has been withdrawn, with the end of the beta testing.
