Block sender

  I get numerous unwanted e-mails - usual stuff - click this for your prize or get cash etc.  For a considerable number the 'block sender' option simply doesn't work.  I assume what the sender somehow has a program that overrides this.  I am using a 2008 Office suite.  

  Is there a cure to this and stop these potential thieves?
