Windows 7 SDK and VS2012

Question
-
I have been having Windows 7 shut down and giving mini dumps. Of course I cannot read them, so they are useless. Double clicking on one bring up VS2012 and I get a message that no editor is available for file type .dmp. So if it has not reader, then why is it set up run when a .dmp file is double clicked? But that is not the real question.
Doing some research, I read that I needed to install the Windows SDK. I downloaded the Windows 7 SDK (web version) and attempted to install. I got errors and further research tells me that I had newer Visual C++ Redistributable and needed to uninstall all versions of that redistributable that were newer even though the install itself said it did not need to be uninstalled. I then ran the install again, and I get a different message about the Visual C++ Compiler but it said THAT did not need to be uninstalled. Well it failed again. So the question becomes: Do I need to get rid of VS2012 in order to install the SDK? Really? Isn't there a version that will work with VS2012? Is there another way to be able to read the mini dumps produced by Windows when it crashes that doesn't mean I have to dismantle my system to get it installed and working?

Thanks. In the mean time, I tried the SDK for Windows 8 and it worked. It seems the SDK is tied to the version of VS you have installed.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
I’m afraid that it is not the correct forum for this issue, since this forum is to discuss: Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.
I am moving your question to the moderator forum ("Where is the forum for..?"). The owner of the forum will direct you to a right forum.
In addition, since it is related to the Windows 7 SDK, if possible, I suggest you post this issue to Windows Desktop SDK forum like this thread “Windows 7 SDK Installation Failure”.
Is there another way to be able to read the mini dumps produced by Windows when it crashes that doesn't mean I have to dismantle my system to get it installed and working?
About this new issue, as my understanding, it will be related to the Windows Debugging, so if possible, you could post this issue in Windows Desktop Debugging.
Best Regards,
