70-432 Self-Paced Training Kit RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Day:

I bought the Microsoft Press Self-Paced Training Kit for exam 70-432 months before the SQL 2008 R2 was released. I'm just wondering if I should just stick with the information in the book and with SQL 2008 base release for now to study for the exam or I should try to know both releases. There are many differences in SQL 2008 R2 compared to SQL 2008, and I honestly feel confused when trying to know both releases' support features.

    Any feedbacks would be appreciated

  • When Windows Server 2008R2 came out, the exams about windows server 2008 started to include questions on the R2 version without any warning. However, there have not yet been any reports about the same thing happening to the SQL Server exams. As far as is publicly known, the 70-432 exam still does not contain any questions on the R2 release.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. Since the largest part of the new features in R2 refer to the business intelliigence functionality, and this is not covered in the 70-432, I would not expect this exam to be modified (70-448, on the other hand, might be changing at any time).

  • I passed this exam somewhere about 6 months ago. I can tell, that SPTK it is quite enough to be prepared well. The most of questions on intelliigence, DTA, SQL Server Profiler etc, and it not strongly differs in R2.

  • When I was preparing for the exam, I felt the same.

When contacted Microsoft Representatives they said although R2 version is released, the certification material is applicable only for SQL 2008 version only. So you need not worry about getting surprised on the exam day.

So the Next version of Sql will be available only when Microsoft releases the next full version say SQL 2012 or something.

Hope you find this info helpful.
