Have tried downloading all those helpful programmes, I had to download Mozilla to even be able to post on here.  On Internet Explorer the Active X controls just don't install no matter how many times I right click and press "install"  when I try to update it using 'tools - manage add ons' it says 'update failed'
I use a Mac laptop as a second computer and all these uneccessary problems are serving to convert me to going the whole hog and replacing my PC with something that always works.  Who's idea was it to plague Windows users with MGA or WGA's new programme?  Are they aware of the vast failure it's been and are they still in a job?
Tell them not to worry, it's only us nerdy computer people that are upset and we'll live to fight another day, it's not like we're starving to death!

  • Did that, still nothing.
After right clicking the Infobar and installing Active X I get this page
    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/Validate.aspx?displaylang=en
After nothing happens I try the alternate method which leads me to the diagnostic page which tells me Active X controlls loading has failed.
I click resolve now which leads me to

Adjust Internet Explorer security settings for ActiveX control behavior

which does nothing, clicking 'try installation again' does nothing other than reload the page.  I have no URL for this page as there's no address bar on it and no info bar appears.
It's at this point that I keep going round in circles with no apparent change.
I tried the same using Mozilla and was asked to download OGA Plugin Install and WGA Plugin Install.  On attempting to open both these files I get the warning "Installation Information Data Unavailable"

    Still need some help

  • Fracam:

Please go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag to get your browser settings correct to run the activeX controls.

  • That's the same as above, just keeps going in circles with me installing Active X Controls and the diagnostic test telling me it's failed.  No change from yesterday at all, fails on internet explorer and  the plugins on Mozilla say: "Installation information unavailable."
    Still need help

  • Check if you have any invalid certificates installed. Go to IE and open Tool>Internet Options>Content>Certificates. See if there is a certificate with a red icon or a certificate with unknown or empty issuer in Intermediate or Trusted Root certificates. And remove if there is any such certificate.

  • No invalid certificates installed.  Still can't validate.

  • Still looking for help here.  Everything so far has failed.  I assume MacIntosh will be rewarding the author of WGA some sort of award for the sterling job they're doing in encouraging thousands of people to switch from Microsoft to Mac.
Suggestion for the future:  Don't update people's PCs with faulty programmes they neither want nor need especially when this is done without the permission of the user.
Suggestion for the present:  Help me fix the problem microsoft has created on my computer.
Thanks for your efforts so far but I'm still experiencing the same annoying problems.

  • Fracam,

Suggestion for now:  Quite often on support forums, the equation goes something like this----The amount of help you get is inversely proportional to the amount of attitude you display.

Please rerun the mgadiag program so we can see if anything has changed.

  • who is supporting this Genuine Advantage issue?  i'm on the the phone right now and will post what i find if the person i get to talk with knows how to fix it.

i am so angry with this system.  once i activated this product months ago i shouldn't have to go through another system to get it to work.

this is going to come back to Microsoft soon i hope!
