Bandwidth Movie Streaming (over Internet) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

in Vali Beta "Movie-Streaming" is a little bit tricky and dont work in all areas as aspected.

Does Vali reencode the movie on the fly? And which bandwidth (upload) is required for streaming?

My provider have a option with 1 MBit upload or 2 MBit upload. Would that be enough? (5 or 10 MBit "Upload-Options" costs a lot more)

    Thanks

  • Yes, Vail transcodes if required. As for bandwidth, it should use whatever bandwidth you have available, transcoding as needed. For the most part, you should be able to figure out what bandwidth you would need for streaming video from the bit rates of your media files. I wouldn't expect to be able to stream HD video over your Internet connection, though, unless you have one of those costlier optional plans. :)
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
