Importing Unit Groups in to CRM 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a set of CSV's which I use to import in to CRM 2011.  These are used for demo's, support, dev etc.  All the main entities work and are in place.  However I am having issues importing Units.  Units are required for Products hence why it is important.

I have created a CSV for Units but each time I import it I get the following error:

"The unit schedule ID is missing. To create a unit, specify a unit schedule ID"

Research has told me that the Unit Schedule field is a lookup for the Unit Group but in this case, I am creating a Unit Group so I do not have this yet.

Please let me know what data I should use for this column

  • Yes, you cannot import unit groups, only units (with the import routine, 3rd party tools may import further data). Importing unit groups your .csv file header would look like this:

    Unit Group; baseuomname

So you´ll have to manually edit unit groups. In DMM (4.0) you could create a manual data mapping - import this and then import data (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dynamicscrmonline/archive/2009/07/10/crm-sample-data-product-fix.aspx), but in 2011 you are not able to import a data mapping for unit groups and then import unit groups with a .csv file.

I don´t know if this is a bug and will be fixed, but it´s not possible so far.

  • If you´ve downloaded unit template and take a look on the tooltip it says:

Base-Unit has to be in the CRM System or has to be in this file. So with the template you can only import units.

  • I create the CSV from scratch however I have just downloaded the template and I cannot see what you can see.  This leaves me a little confused.  Are you saying that I need to manually add the unit groups first, therefore, it is not possible to import Unit Groups?

The CSV that I have created contains the below fields.  I have included the default Unit group so you can see what I have put in each field.

Base Unit, Quantity, Created On, Name, Unit, Unit Schedule.

Default Unit, 1, 10/10/2010, Default Unit, Primary Unit,,

It this right?  If I put Default Unit in the Unit Schedule field then it errors because the lookup cant be resolved.

  • Ok.  I only have 4 Unit Groups so its not too much of a problem but I can see how this could become an issue if this number increase.  Perhaps when this time comes, there will be a fix.

    Thanks for your comments.
