  • Hello All Users that have posted a Diagnostic Report in this thread,

Your Diagnostic Reports show Vista as Genuine and I see no other Vista Activation or Validation error codes.

I do see from your Reports that you all have a Trial Version of Office. When a trial verstion of Office reaches the end of iot's trial period, it will ask for a Valid Office Product Key. The Product Key (found on the sticker on the side or bottom of your computer) is for Windows only and will not work for Office.

Full Versions of Office do not, normally, come standard on computers. Computer Manufacturers will often include a Trial version of Office, which allows you to use it for a limited number of uses (after which, it will ask for a Valid Product Key), but if you wish to continue using it, you would need to by a Full Version of Office.

If the copy of Office, that came with your computer, is supposed to be a Full Version, then the Product key would be included in the documentation that came with the computer. If you are unable to find the Office Product Key and you still believe that the computer should have come with a Full Version of Office, please contact the Person, Company, and/or the Computer Manufacturer, that you bought the computer from, for further assistance.

  •  d_ro,

Your Diagnostic Report shows Vista as Activated and Genuine and I don't see any other issues with Vista.

However, I do see that you have a Trial version of Office.  If your issue is that you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program, it is likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.

  • Hello cheaz,

Since you are posting in someone elses thread and the fact that you did not provide any description of your Vista Validation or Activation related problem, I have no idea how to resolve your issue.

From your Diagnostic Report, your Vista shows as Genuine and I do not see any Activation or Validation error codes.

If your issue is with Activation, I suggest using the Activate by Phone method below:

Click the Start button, and type slui.exe 4 in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

If you have a different issue, please create your own thread, re-post the Diagnostic Report as well as provide a detailed description of the issue you are facing.

    Thank you,

    Darin Smith

Please review the following for additional information:

How to determine whether you have a trial edition of a 2007 Office suite or program installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927920/en-us

How to convert a trial version of a 2007 Office suite or program to a full retail perpetual license version:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927756/en-us

If this is not the issue you are experiencing, please create your own thread, report the Diagnostic Report as well as detailed description of the issue.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
