2 year old Vista message will expire in 14 days RRS feed

  • Question

  • Bought a computer in 2007 loaded with XP with Vista upgrade offer. In March 2008, upgraded with OEM provided disk to Vista home basic. Bought Vista Home Premium with SP1 upgrade from Best Buy later that year (April) and installed without issue except the lower right corner of the monitor shows Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build6002. However, since I had no problems AND office 2007 still shows as a preview copy even though THAT was uninstalled and full price program installed, I did not worry about it.

Vista is currently at SP2 status.

Recently I joined Microsoft's small business initative 'Websparks'. No problems with provided software except SP1 for Visual Studio will not install.

On 3/19/2010 the system threw a message that Vista will expire in 14 days.

Is there a software/hardware problem, or was I ripped off by Best Buy, or something else. Can the SP1 problem with VS relate to this copy of Vista. Never had a problem passing Genuine testing for any of the other MS products installed in the last two years.

At $119.00 paid to a brick and mortar store, I feel (felt) software was a legit copy but now??? Still have packaging, original disks etc. NOTHING ON THE PACKAGE STATES THIS IS EVALUATION SOFTWARE. IT CLEARLY STATES IT IS VISTA HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE WITH SP1. Seal was not broken on package until brought home (that was something checked, not assumed).

  • Hi Darin,

I'm having the same problem but I couldn't uninstall it since it doesn't show up under "View Installed Updates". Where can I find the SP to uninstalling it? I have SP2 v.286. I already tried all the methods from this site...http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335037%28WS.10%29.aspx#Uninstalling

    Thanks
