Applying Multiple rollups (7 and 10) is this possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I deploy rollups from the server, and make them mandatory, thus when users open outlook, they are forced to update. This time, I want to apply R7 followed by R10. I inculded both in the Patches.xml file as per the Deployment guide, but when users open outlook, it tries to install R10 first (and fails, since R7 needs to be present first). I changed the order in the xml file, but no effect. How can I do this, if at all?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Alex,

In order to have R7 installed before R10, you need to have

    <RequiredPatches>PatchID for R7 </RequiredPatches>

Specified for R10 patech.  So it will check if R7 is required to install first.

  • Not sure if this is related, but after making the change to the patches.xml file, clients still try to install rollup 10 first. Additionally, the install fails with:

Updates are available at the following locations and require administrative credentials. If you do not have appropriate permissions, contact your administrator to download the and install the updates.

If I try to open "http://crmserver/crmpatches" in my web browser, I get the following:

The webpage cannot be found. HTTP 404

It occurs to me that this all started after patching the server with Rollups 7 and 10...

  • Rollup 10 doesn't require rollup 7.

  • Actually... yes it does.

    Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed to apply this update rollup. Update Rollup 7 is a prerequisite for Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Migration Manager.

  • It's required for Office and the data migration manager, not CRM.

  • Still unable to install patches. I tried to install R10 only, but I still get the error:

    http://crmserver/crmpatches/CRMv4.0-KB979347-i386-Client-ENU

No machine (I tried 6) is able to update. I can run the update files manually, and that works, but updating from within the CRM client just won't work. I'm at a loss. Can someone tell me how to verify if the permissions are correct for the http://crmserver/crmpatches webpage, and how to troubleshoot why it give HTTP 404?

    Thanks.

  • To install rollups the user has to have local administrator privilege or better.  It is not uncommon for a user to have less than that on their machine.  Many shops don't want users to be allowed to install ANY software.

  • Mardukes,

All users are admins on their machines (manual installation of patches works). I wonder if the patch DB has been corrupted... I undeployed the two patches, and then ran CRM update from an Outlook client, expecting it to find nothing. However, I still see R7 and R10 listed. Is there another way  to undeploy a patch, or a way to Hard reset the patch DB?

  • So I was able to reset the patch Database and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I still have the same problems. Patches will not install, and navigation to http://crmserver/crmpatches gives HTTP 404. I don't know what else to do...
