If it fails to validate your subscription, select the option that you are using a trial or beta copy and you can proceed to email support without validation once you've signed in.

  • I am getting the same message today too.  All I did was re-start the computer and I get the message that the Firewall is shut off and my computer might be at risk.  When I try to turn it on, it says it can't and to try later and if it continues to contact help.  What's going on?

  • Thanks for the link to the tool Stephen, but it didn't work.  I ran it and it said it was successfully repaired and I re-booted but still got the same result.  Will contact Support.

Thanks again, and want to take this opportunity to wish you a Very Happy New Year.

  • Happy New Year to you, too, Larry and good luck to you.

By the way, what version of OneCare are you running?

You might want to try "Method 2" in this KB article to repair MSXML - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/910656

  • Thanks Stephen.  I'm running the latest 2.0 version.  I tried all the steps.  Uninstalled, cleaned, re-installed and nothing works.  I just restored to a previous good configuration and it's still not working.  I don't know what to try next.  I've uninstalled and re-installed.the MSXML parser subsystem as they suggested and that didn't work either.  I'm going to try another uninstall and re-install.

  • Well, this is weird.  I just uninstalled, cleaned and re-installed OneCare and still get the error that the OneCare firewall cannot be turned on, but I go to my Vista Security Center and it shows that everything is on.  So, what is wrong with OneCare?  Guess I'll have to shoot a note off to Support.

Ok, I sent an e-mail off to Support so we'll see what they say.  I'll post back with any resolution, hoping it will help enyone else with the same problem.

    Have a safe New Years.

  • Still no word from Support and I probably won't hear back from them until after the New Year.  Oh well.  Such is life.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year.

  • Just to update, Support solved the problem.  Somehow the Windows Event Log gets stopped and has to be turned on manually and then OneCare Firewall can be re-started.  I've posted the steps in another post I saw today.
