SIP Trunking in OCS 2007 (NOT R2) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
Is SIP trunking supported in OCS 2007 Standard edition? I was reading http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd440963.aspx which mentions it under R2.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Yes, it is possible with the use of a Mediation Server. It uses SIP of TCP, byut doesn't do SIP over TLS which R2 supports.

  • Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.

Can you also tell me how do I configure my PBX and OCS without a mediation server. According to Microsoft, the Mediation server is required for protocol conversion. My PBX supports almost all the possible protocols and codecs. Please don't ask me the company name :)

When I was trying to configure a route in OCS, the list was blank until I installed a mediation server. I tried to use my PBX directly but found no way to do that. How can I use my PBX directly?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ashutosh

  • The Mediation server is absolutely a requirement to support Enterprise Voice, you cannot get the PBX to talk directly to an OCS-Front-End server.  The Medaition server is required to translate the Microsoft-only SIP/RTP sessions into G.711 or other standard voice protocols, but that's not all it does.  Without it, some of the OCS components needed to handle voice calls (like the routing, as you saw) will be missing.

  • As I understand it, both Standard and Enterprise Editions of OCS 2007 RTM (R1 6362.0 version) should support direct SIP trunking with OIP qualified IP PBX and SIP/PSTN gateways. In addition, the right configuration changes and patches must be applied on R1 server roles and the Office Communicator Client (MOC):

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
