Office Suite 2007 activation failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Thank you for an easy to read and search forum where the responses seem to be prompt and to the point. I hope that you would be able to assist me too.
My Office 2007 Suite program is installed successfully but as soon as I open a document to edit, it slips into reduced functionality mode.
    1. I uninstalled all previous versions of office from my PC separately - rebooted and
    2. Did a clean install of Office 2007 Professional. On a previous occasion I also tried to
    3. Upgrade my existing Office 2003, either by removing 2003 simultaneously with the install or upgrading and installing Outlook for the first time.
    4. Office 2003 has validated each and every time.

    5. I contacted MS here in South Africa and they were able to telephonically confirm my product key and said that it can only be the disc - which I doubt
    6. They also asked me to visit  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/919895/en-us and follow the steps there, which I did without any success. Even deleting the opa12 data file didn't make any difference.

    7. I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and paste the relevant portion with regards to Office:

As you can see it just says it isn't activated, no blocked VLK or anything which can tell me what is wrong.
When I go into any of the Office Suite Programs, click on Program Options and want to activate - the wizard doesn't even start, nor does the MGA website appear. I cannot even change any options in Outlook for instance.
I have now tried everything and taken the time to explain, in writing, what I have done - NOW I GIVE UP :-)

Lastly - when I submitted my Diagnostic results, it indicated to me that the report is rated C - MINIMUM BUSINESS IMPACT. Please be real, I wouldn't spend thousands of Rands on proper Software and NOT use it for business? My law firm is doing down time and I need some suggestions before I give up on Microsoft ;-)

I run Vista Ultimate by the way and dont look back at all..

    Thanx

  • Hello Francus :-)

We appreciate you taking time and providing us with the full MGA Diagnostic Results. We try and keep Office threads in the OGA Forum and also we have a WGA forum for customers experiencing Genuine Advantage issues with Windows OS.  As I mentioned this allows us to see what you are experiencing. Currently you have two Microsoft Suites installed. Microsoft does not recommend running multiple versions of Office simultaneously. We recommend removing one Office Suite and only using the version which you require. It is possible to use more than one version on a single computer but you could experience some difficulties.  Please review Knowledge Base (KB) article describing problems you may encounter and offers advice on preventing different versions of Office from conflicting with each other should you require both Office Suite versions.

KB290576 – How to run multiple versions of Office on one computer

     http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290576/en-us.

Francus you mentioned the Activation Knowledge Base article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895/ , which Dan provided did not resolve the problem. Please tell us exactly what happened, error codes, messages etc that you received when attempting to activate by the information provide in the KB article.

Have you tried telephone activation? If not
please re-run the “Activate Windows Wizard” and select Activate My Product Using The Telephone.  Follow the phone prompts.

If the automated telephone activation is not accepted, you will be offered the option to speak with a live activation representative.  Choose that option.  The representative will ask a few questions for the purpose of confirming that you are still using your license for Office in accordance with the EULA.  If this is confirmed, the representative will issue an activation code for you to enter into the Activation Wizard.

Please let us know if this works Francus.

As you can see from my profile, I am an Attorney and my time has been limited in contributing to any forum in the past, but wanted to become more involved with Software Development, especially with the new-age OS' where I have played on Longhorn and Office 2007 Beta in 2006. And then Legal Interact (a South African based Microsoft Partner), developed a Window interface for Lawyers (and Doctors), that was supposed to work on Vista. As with my Sagem printer (which only downloaded it's own driver a year after I got it), the interface was not bugg-proof when they installed it on my Pc with Ultimate. It uses a 'DOS-based' program as database (WinLaw) to charge for items and simplify my bookkeeping procedures (as Lawyers basically has two sets of books in a Trust Account and a Business Account). But after some glitches, it seems to be working now. Hence the reason for me to get my Office 2007 Outlook to work properly.

Anyway, hope you can help me with the above as a CSR from Microsoft SA, e-mailed me this morning and asked if I could send her a screenshot with an 'Office' and an 'Office 2003' start-up toolbar menu-search. I sent it to her, but because we have national elections tomorrow, won't get my answer until Thursday.

Hope to hear from you soon.
    Francus
