May 2014 CU for Lync 2013 Client on Win 8.1 Pro May Cause Clock Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • After installing KB 2880980 for my 32-bit Lync 2013 client running on my Win 8.1 Pro laptop, I received the error below when trying to sign in:

I checked the time on each of our Lync 2013 front ends, as well as our DC server, and found it to be correct.   I checked the date, time and time zone on my local machine as well and found it to be correct.   I then checked my installed updates and noticed that the May 2014 CU for Lync 2013 client had been installed.  I uninstalled this CU and rebooted my machine and was able to sign in again without any issue.

To test that this CU was, in fact, the root cause, I completely removed the Office 2013 Pro Plus program from my machine and all updates and rebooted.  I then did a fresh install of Office 2013 and was able to sign into  Lync 2013 client without any problem.   However, as soon as I installed KB 2880980 as before, the client threw the clock error above.   Removing this CU and rebooting my machine fixed this issue every time.

Interesting, I have another machine running Win 7 where the May 2014 CU for Lync 2013 client had also been installed but didn't result in the above error message.   Accordingly, this latest CU from Microsoft only appears to create this issue with 2013 clients running on Win 8.1 (and maybe 8.0).

I am hoping someone from Microsoft reads this thread and can escalate this issue to their Development Team so they can fix whatever it is with their May 2014 CU that appears to be causing this issue.
