Is there a file limit that WHS will backup? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using WHS 1 and 2011 for a while now.  Recently I read an article that said WHS 2011 can not backup a file larter than 2GB.  Is that true?  I never thought about it however to date although I have a bunch larger, never had to restore them so was confused when I saw this.  Is this the case?  I know there is a 2TB limit on the hard drives which is not true either as I have a 13TB single partition I created on my RAID and overrode the limit it imposed.

    Thanks.

  • You can not use the inbuilt tools to make a server backup to an external drive of more that 2TB of data. This is due to the fact it uses .vhd files which are limited in size. No such 2GB limit I know of and I have backed up and restored many files larger than this.
