  • Hello Sebringx,

The Compaq computer came with an Original Eqipment Manufacturer (OEM) license for Windows XP, and that is still installed on the hard disjk drive you trnasplanted to the new Visionman computer.

Unfortunately, you are not permitted by the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) to move an OEM license from one computer to another.

To read the XP OEM EULA, click Start>Run, type winver, click OK, then in the resultant window, click on the "End User Licesning Agreement" link to read the EULA.  Paragraph 1 states, "This license may not be shared, transferred to or used concurrently on different computers."

That's why the Windows Product Activation system is refusing to activate your Windows.

In order to run Windows on your Visionman computer, you will have to purchase a new license for Windows.  Please purchase your Windows XP license from a trusted local or online retailer, as there are all-too-many counterfeits floating around out there.  If you purchase from an online auction site, please be extra careful!  Please visit www.howtotell.com to educate yourself on what to look for to help prevent inadvertently buying counterfeit or mislicensed Windows.
