Rather than purchasing a new computer, try MS WGA support and see if they can help.
WGA Support can be found here
North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4
Outside North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0
Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store - please try the following.....
Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).
Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

Am having problems with step 7 - I get "system cannot find the file specified." Have also tried another approach I found while researching this issue. Once in the Control Panel I tried changing the key and get message 0x80070426 - "service has not been started."
Thank you.

Please run the following commands
DIR %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing /S
DIR %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft
DIR %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft /AH /S
post the results.

You would appear to have had problems for more than a year!
The tokens.dat file was renamed on 10th Feb 2011, and the system failed to rebuild it at that time.
the fact that the rebuild failed suggests that tehre is a problem with the NetworkService account.
Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command prompt, and post the results.

Not quite perfect (you ran that as a normal user, rather than an Elevated user, and I still had a typo present),
let's try again - and I'll try and eliminate the typos this time!
ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\Networkservice REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18" /S REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-19" /S REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20" /S REG QUERY HKU\S-1-5-20
Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

That's better - we got it right that time.
Unfortuately (?) everything looks correct, so we'll have to search elsewhere for the problem.

That looks normal.
As you may have guessed - I'm scratching around trying to find something that's off-kilter, and not succeeding too well!
back to basics....
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.
Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Yep - you got it right :)
Thre's nothing unusual in your report. The one error is in teh setting.ini file for the sidebar - and I've seen more machines with that error than without.
Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)
Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file
Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your public SkyDrive so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

That found nothing, either.
It's been a while now, and the two tools do occasionally kick things into place even if they show no obvious results ...
Please run another MGADiag report and post it.

Let's see if re-registering some of the dll's involved works....
Open an Elevated Command prompt, and copy/paste the following list of commands to it.....
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s

We don't seem to be getting anywhere by that route - let's see if the system has any record of what is going wrong....
Please oprn Event Viewer
In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs\Application, and right-click on it - selectt Save all events as... and save as Appevt.evtx

You have problems with a couple of Sony services - NSUServer, VcmIAlzMgr ,and the Sony Media
Windows Defender is also complaining - possibly because McAfee is blocking it without actually switching it off as it should.
You also appear to have a problem with your network configuration - the machine is attempting to access a different IP range to the one in use on your network.
The GigaPocket media player is having problems - possibly because of the problems with the services
What other Anti-Virus programs have EVER been installed on this machine? - McAfee is renowned for not playing nicely with others. Has McAfee been on this machine since new? is it up-to-date?
Please disable Windows Defender - it shouldn't be running at the same time as McAfee.

I will settle for the gentle shock from static electricity!
Norton was installed originally and I had problems with it so I went with McAfee. I also have Anti-Malware. Unless another member of the household (husband) has unknowingly (very likely) clicked on a pop up for an anti-virus I am not aware of any others. Would all/any of the problems you mentioned be responsible for the windows not genuine notice? Thank you!
-
Norton and McAfee are the two worst offenders in terms of leaving residues behind that cause problems with other anti-virus progrms, and with the system in general.
I would recommend that you run the Norton Removal Tool - and possibly also remove MacAfee (at least temporrily), run the MCPR to clean up, and then reinstall McAfee and test.
Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home
Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine whether it asks for it or not.
After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command
NETSH WINSOCK RESET
You'll be advised to reboot - do so.
then post another MGADiag report.

I hopefully have removed Norton. Also removed and did a reinstall of McAfee. Also found "whitesmoke" and removed. After that, I lost all the programs. How I lost them, I do not know. Should I do a restore? I am able to get to command prompt but do not know how to access for elevated prompt. Which anti-virus would you recommend? Thank you.
-
I'm not familiar with 'whitesmoke' - it appears to me to be an online grammar-checker?
You say you 'lost all the programs' - what does that mean? what are you (not)seeing? where?Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Rather than purchasing a new computer, try MS WGA support and see if they can help.
WGA Support can be found here
North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4
Outside North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0
Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!
