Mesh client lost shared folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had the same issue hapen on both my devices.

First device is my laptop (Win Vista 32) other device is my desktop (Win 7 32).

The mesh clinet looses reference to one of my shared folders. Last week in the laptop I uninstalled and reinstalled mesh. But I don't think it is a solution if its going to happen on a weekly basis.

At the time it hap stoped syncornizing files to the folder.

Today it happened to my on my desktop. I clicked in the mesh icon, and one of the folders (a different one) was gone.

Any ideas how I can get it back?

    Best regards,

    Santiago

  • I have no clue what could be happening with your two machines and the folders. Normally, when a problem occurs and files stop synchronizing to or from a client, nothing changes about the folders and the solution is to try reinstalling Live Mesh. Failing that, uninstall, remove machine from Live Desktop/Mesh, and reinstall the client and set up the sync relationships again. In your case, the latter may still be the best bet, but since we don't know why the folder is disappearing from the client folder list, yet retaining the sync properties when viewing them on the Live Desktop, I'm not sure that it won't happen again.

You should probably submit a bug report before uninstalling/reinstalling, along with your logs from both machines. I'm not sure that anyone will look at them since rumors are heating up about the next release being expected within the next few months...

Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.

  • Thanks again for the reply.

Tried cancelling and resyncing from the Live desktop but zero effect - no new shortcut on the desktop for sync properties, nothing new in Live Mesh Folders folder.

really odd, Argel. Unfortunately, a reinstall after removing the machine from the mesh is in order. :-(

  • What do you mean by the folder is gone? Is it gone from the PC or is it no longer in your Mesh? Is it available on the Live Desktop?

I think that you best bet might be to start over. Uninstall Live Mesh, remove the devices from your Mesh at www.mesh.com and then reinstall Live Mesh and reconfigure the folder associations. I've never heard of a folder disappearing from the Mesh unless it was deleted or moved on another device in the Mesh, in which case that action will replicate to the other devices.

Another reason for unexplained deletions is that other sync software is also synchronizing with the same folder or folders on one or more devices.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I mean is gone from the Mesh Cliente Folders TAB.

It is still on the PC, It is still on the live workspace. And Other members of that folder are not reporting the same behavior.

I am not using another sync software, I switched from groove to mesh a couple of months ago. I thought of that in the laptop, but the Desktop is a brand new win 7 installation.

As I mentioned in the original post, I did the uninstalling on the laptop last week, only to find that me desktop showed the same behavior (and with  a diferent folder).

Both boxes are different (one is vista, the otherone is 7), so flder path is also diferent.

    Any more input?

    REgards,

    Mata

  • Hi, Mata. That is really odd behavior. Is it the same folder in both cases? If you go to the Live Desktop at www.mesh.com and check the sync properties, does it show as being synchronized with the PC that no longer shows it in the client folder list?

If you add a file to that folder on the PC where it isn't listed in the client, does it still sync to the Mesh?

  • Hi,

"Is it the same folder in both cases?"

    No two different ones

"If you go to the Live Desktop at www.mesh.com and check the sync properties, does it show as being synchronized with the PC that no longer shows it in the client folder list?"

    Yes

"If you add a file to that folder on the PC where it isn't listed in the client, does it still sync to the Mesh?"

Now it doesn't.When I first realized about this on my laptop, it sync until last week when another user of the folder mentioned he had not seen my updates (and I did not see his either).

Now It is not going either way.

    Thanks,

    Mata

  • This sounds like exactly what has happened to me. I had a completely successful and stable three-way shared Documents folder between a desktop (Win 7), netbook (Win 7) and laptop (Vista) - direct sync between the machines, nothing stored on the Live Desktop. Sometime between April 18th ans April 23rd the sync disappeared.

The netbook and Live Desktop still remember the sharing (i.e. the Mesh folder is there on the Live Desktop and in the netbook Live Mesh Folders folder). The laptop and desktop do not - i.e. there is nothing in the Live Mesh Folders folder on either machine.

I have made no changes to Mesh nor, as far as I am aware, to the set-up of the machines apart from normal updates.

  • Hi, Argel. That sounds just as strange as the original report by Mata. However, you are noting that the Live Mesh folders are empty. Do you mean that the folders that you are sharing between devices are emtpty or do you mean that when you click on the Live Mesh Folder there are no folders listed within?

Did you reinstall Live Mesh by removing the machine(s) at www.mesh.com and uninstalling the client, then reinstalling by adding the machines back?

  • Many thanks for the reply. Sorry that my description was unclear.

When I said that there was nothing in the 'Live Mesh Folders' folder on the laptop and desktop, I meant that there was noi record that the Documents folder had ever been included in the Mesh. I have four other folders which are synced between the three machines and they are still working normally.

I haven't yet reinstalled, partly because the folders are large and it will take an age to repropagate them.

  • How about just changing the folder properties at www.mesh.com for the folder that "disappeared" on that PC to not sync with that PC and then change the properties again to sync with that PC. Does it offer the folder once again to the PC?

  • I've had the same thing happen to me twice.

The first time, I eventually removed the my device (win7 laptop) from the live mesh devices list, uninstalled live mesh on this laptop/re-installed.. It sync'd everything correctly and worked for 2 days.. Now it's back to having the folder not showing up.

The other live mesh folders work fine - just this one. If it makes a difference, this is also a folder which is part of a 3 way sync, but *not* on the live desktop (it's too big - 7gb's..) - the other two devices sync fine for this folder. and the other folders show up fine on the laptop.

  • Not that it is going to get you a solution, Mark, but the best I can suggest is that you submit a bug report with logs. The behavior is strange. Especially if a reinstall resolved it and then the problem reappeared after 2 days. Something seems to be telling Live Mesh on that device that it should no longer sync that folder with the Mesh.
