Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine RRS feed

  • OEM version of Windows 7 on a Dell laptop.  Machine died and needed to be re-installed. Used my Dell disks that came with the laptop and everything was ok for 2 weeks. All of a sudden I am seeing Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine in the lower right hand corner of my desktop. Please advise.

  • OEM SLP copies of Windows like yours need to link with the SLIC table in the BIOS in order to remain activated.  The manufacturer has provided a back up product key for when this fails.  If the new laptop is a different model from the old one then the embedded product key in the recovery disks may not work on the new BIOS.  Find the COA sticker affixed to the bottom of your computer or in the battery compartment.  Copy the product key.  Click Start, type "slui.exe 3" and hit Enter.  Follow the instructions.
