Using Custom Assemblies from SRS reports RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

In a CRM Online deployment, can my RDL files reference outside assemblies? For example, the CRM report wizard generates reports that reference the following assembly:

    Microsoft.Crm.Reporting.RdlHelper, Version=5.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35

But that assembly was put on my local SSRS bin folder when I installed the report components (srsConnector or ReportExtensions) locally... Will that be available in Online Deployments?

As a second part to the question, if that Crm.Reporting.RdlHelper assembly is available in an online deployment, can I make my own assemblies available too? I want to make my own assemblies available so I can do the usual SSRS localization pattern of asking my custom assembly for the text depending on user!language.

    Thanks in advance!
    Ben

  • This is not an official answer, but I cannot see any way that MS would allow you to deploy your own custom assemblies for use with SSRS in CRM Online. These assemblies would have to be deployed in the file system, and MS will not allow any custom code to be deployed in the file system in CRM Online

  • Any clarification? This is a critical feature of SSRS and it's not clear how it would work with online deploys.

  • thats what I was afraid of but assumed to be true...

I'd love to hear a Microsoft answer.

It seems reports in Online Deployments are barely supported -- is this something the product is looking to address in some way, or is on-premises a requirement for a full featured set of reports (keeping up with best-practices)?

  • CRM Online does not allow deploying of user code on SRS servers. We are aware of this gap and are discussing this internally.
