Back up to non Hub PC very slow

Question
-
I have a 2 computer circle. When I back up the "slave" PC, the connection to the Hub is over a wireless network and is slow. I have added many large music files to the "slave" PC and want to back them up. But I don't want to endure the length of time necessary. Is there a way I can connect my external drive (the back up drive) directly to my "slave" PC for a one time or once in a while incremental back up?

You will need to use an Ethernet cable, to connect the PC that is normally wireless, to you router in order to perform a faster backup. You cannot move the external drive to the "slave" PC for backup unless you change your backup plan to *not* use the centralized backup location (which is connected to the other PC).

Thank you Steve.

Re above, if I change the backup plan as above, will OneCare perform the same incremental back up as it did before the change? I'd prefer to just connect the drive to each computer on an ongoing basis but do not relish the idea of performing a clean or fresh back up of the whole slave computer.

If you change the backup plan, you will be starting a new backup for each PC. You can then carry the drive from PC to PC when it is time to run backup and each time you connect the drive to a PC, it will be an incremental backup after that first new full backup.
The exception to the above would be if when connecting the drive to a PC that PC assigns a different drive letter. In that case backup will fail until you fix the drive letter assignment in Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer Management/Disk management or you will need to revise the plan and start another new backup.

i think you misunderstood my question. i need to remove the old computer set ups from one care, then I have to be able to reset this computer as a hub one and re install one care on the other. because you are only allowed 3 computers set up to one care per subscription, the program doesn't recognize these as the same because I reinstalled vistA ON THEM.Sunday, October 18, 2009 5:32 AM

You are replying to a thread from March of this year, not your question, unless you are the other user, Ebuyguy.
If you have upgraded your computers to Vista by installing Vista fresh, these are new computers as far as OneCare is concerned.
Make any one of the computers into a Hub PC by opening OneCare and then remove the "dead" computers from the list. You can then configure the Centralized backup plan fresh for the 3 computers that are now running OneCare. If that doesn't work for you, please contact support.
