Since downloading Windows Live Onecare my ability to download updates from Microsoft has been dead, the '1' is permanently red and when onecare opens it advises me to download automatic updates, I click on the button and it advises me to either try again later or contact Help which seems to be another impossible task. Has anyone encountered this problem and is there a way to resolve it, I am running XP Professional.

  • Try enabling Automatic Updates for Windows from Control Panel.

    If that fails, see the

Windows Update Solution Center - http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

I believe that you may also have a problem with the OneCare database if FixIt didn't work - try the database reset tool - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4bc2594b-95ab-4235-b5b8-41656b38480f&DisplayLang=en

Support may not be the easiest to contact sometimes, but that should not prevent you from trying:

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

If Windows Live OneCare is RED, that means that there is some issue regarding the OneCare that need attention.

What are the actions that you need to do that is located under "Action to take" when you open the Windows Live OneCare? List all the messages that you have and state what is the color of that message if in yellow or in red/pink.
